Is it me, or is Ash Wednesday just really distracting? I know everyon'e tryign to be all 'holy, holy, holy' and junk, but do you have to use dirt? On your face? And then walk around like no ne should be giving you wierd-ass looks?
Plum, I think it's perfectly appropriate that people would give me weird-ass looks, whether or not I have the ash cross on my forehead. However, I didn't give much of an opportunity; my plans after the Ash Wednesday service included going home and showering. I posted here in conjunction with two other bloggers (http://sense-datum.org/tim and http://www.jacobswellchurch.org/todd), but other than this it's more personal and less public.
Mary - don't let the naysayers get you down. I think it's great. I think we could all use more Lent. Wanted to tell you how cool I think your "experiment" is - so counterintuitive in this culture of consumption but man, the peace we'd find if our treasure and our hearts were elsewhere and our gaze were less inward. You going off Mint M&Ms for Lent? I will if you will. Oh wait, we don't have those. Well, it'll be easier for me than you... David (fearfullyhuman.blogs.com)
